China-Singapore Jingwei, May 18th. On Tuesday, Eastern Time, the three major U.S. stock indexes rose collectively.

American Express, JPMorgan, Cisco, and Disney rose more than 3%, leading the Dow; Walmart closed down 11.35%, the biggest one-day drop since 1987, and the company's first-quarter net profit fell short of expectations.

  As of the close, the Dow rose 431.17 points, or 1.34%, to 32,654.59 points; the Nasdaq rose 321.73 points, or 2.76%, to 11,984.52 points; the S&P 500 rose 80.84 points, or 2.02%, to 4,088.85 points.

  Large technology stocks rose collectively. Apple rose 2.54%, Amazon rose 4.11%, Netflix rose 2.17%, Google rose 1.77%, Facebook rose 1.29%, and Microsoft rose 2.03%.

  Bank stocks rose collectively. JPMorgan Chase rose 3.4%, Goldman Sachs rose 3.2%, Citigroup rose 7.73%, Morgan Stanley rose 3.78%, Bank of America rose 3.5%, and Wells Fargo rose 3.62%.

  Energy stocks rose collectively, with Exxon Mobil up 1.21%, Chevron up 0.53%, ConocoPhillips up 1.35%, Schlumberger up 1.97%, and Occidental Oil up 0.24%.

  Anti-epidemic concept stocks rose collectively, Moderna rose 4.42%, Gilead Sciences rose 1.51%, Novavax Pharmaceuticals rose 8.23%, BioNTech rose 5.69%, and Pfizer rose 1.4%.

  Airline stocks rose collectively, Boeing rose 6.4%, American Airlines rose 7.67%, Delta Airlines rose 6.76%, Southwest Airlines rose 4.52%, and United Airlines rose 7.88%.

  Popular Chinese concept stocks generally rose, Canaan Technology rose 14.79%, Maverick Electric rose 13.8%, Wuyou English rose 13.59%, Xunlei rose 12.9%, iQiyi rose 7.92%, Alibaba rose 6.41%, Pinduoduo rose 6.13 %, Baidu rose 4.79%, and Jingdong rose 4.15%.

In terms of declines, Kaixin Auto fell 8.65%, Fang Tian fell 8.61%, Yixian E-commerce fell 5.49%, OneConnect fell 5.14%, and TouchPal fell 5.06%.

New energy vehicle stocks rose collectively, with NIO up 14.16%, Xiaopeng Motors up 5.7%, and Ideal Auto up 7.81%.

  In the news, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said in an interview on Tuesday that the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) broadly supports raising interest rates by 50 basis points each at the next two meetings.

He also said the Fed would not hesitate to keep raising interest rates until inflation eased.

  The position report released by Hillhouse shows that in the first quarter, the company carried out increased holdings and new purchases of 12 stocks. Chinese stocks include Didi, Vipshop, JD.com, Shell, Manbang, Futu, Eight companies including Daxin Energy and ACM (Shengmei Semiconductor).

In addition, JPMorgan Chase recently upgraded the stock ratings of seven Chinese technology companies from underweight to overweight.

  In terms of economic data, the U.S. Department of Commerce reported that retail sales in April increased by 0.90% month-on-month, compared with expectations of 0.8% and the previous value of 0.5%; retail sales in April increased by 8.19% year-on-year, compared with the previous value of 6.9%.

  In terms of European stock markets, the 100-stock average price index of the "Financial Times" of the London stock market closed at 7518.35 points, up 53.55 points, or 0.72%, from the previous trading day.

The CAC40 index of the French Paris stock market closed at 6430.19 points, up 82.42 points, or 1.30%, from the previous trading day.

The DAX index of the Frankfurt stock market in Germany closed at 14,185.94 points, up 221.56 points, or 1.59%, from the previous trading day.

  In terms of international oil prices, WTI June crude oil futures closed down $1.80, or 1.57%, at $112.40 a barrel.

Brent crude oil futures for July ended down $2.31, or 2.02%, at $111.93 a barrel.

  In terms of gold prices, the most actively traded June gold futures price in the New York Mercantile Exchange gold futures market rose $4.9 from the previous trading day to close at $1,818.9 an ounce, an increase of 0.27%.

  On the U.S. dollar index, the U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major currencies, fell 0.79% to 103.3620 as of late New York trading.
