From May 19 until August 31, Lidl Plus cardholders will be able to benefit, once a month, from a 5% reduction on all products.

The purpose of this measure is to limit the effect of inflation on customers' purchasing power.

To benefit from it, simply download the free Lidl Plus application, indicates

A reduction without conditions

It is already used by more than 4.5 million French people.

A coupon will then appear on the smartphone on May 19, then on the first day of each following month.

The discount is immediate and accessible to each customer, regardless of their income or the contents of their basket.

The executive director of purchasing and marketing at Lidl France has estimated the inflation rate at 3% in the stores of the German brand.

At the request of Bercy, the distributor therefore made a move by reducing its margin.

This is also the case of Leclerc, which has decided to block the prices of 120 products until July 31 by setting up an “anti-inflation shield”.

Intermarché also offers a 5% reduction in the form of vouchers.

According to the executive director, customer habits have changed since the price spike.

They come more frequently to spread out their expenses, while the price of the average basket has fallen slightly.

Surprisingly, the prices of fresh produce, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables "have been maintained or even increased, whereas this is where prices are increasing the most", indicated the official.

A possible sequel

According to him, the rise in food prices should reach 5% this summer and 7 or 8% in the fall.

This situation could lead to an extension of the 5% discount coupon program beyond August 31, or even a strengthening of the measures taken by Lidl to support the purchasing power of its customers.
