Prisa values its radio business at 225 million euros.

That is the figure that indirectly shows the closing of the purchase that the publishing group of El País and Cadena Ser has just made official: 45 million to "acquire 20% of the capital of the Radio division that the Godó Group held."

The purchase, made through Prisa Media (the Prisa subsidiary that covers the press and radio businesses), is carried out through a first payment of 30 million at the signing of the agreement and the remaining 15 million to be paid in 2023.

"This operation is one more step in the consolidation of the radio and press businesses launched last year and reinforces the Group's industrial project. In addition, it allows Prisa to

simplify the structure, providing it with greater flexibility and lower costs

", has expressed the media company, chaired by the founder of Amber Capital, Joseph Oughourlian.

Prisa's radio stations gather in Spain and Latin America more than 22 million listeners.

The figure for this sale allows us to extrapolate the value that Prisa itself estimates for its entire radio business, which includes stations such as

Cadena Ser, the musical Los40 or the international Caracol Radio

.

The 225 million that would result from extrapolating this operation to 100% of the company exceeds the amount presented by Blas Herrero to take control of Prisa's media, since it was around 200 million.

In fact, the Asturian who shaped Kiss FM not only opted for the Prisa stations but for the complete media division, which also includes the press area with relevant headers from El País, Cinco Días or As .

Epilogue of Antena 3 Radio

The departure of the Godó group serves as an epilogue for the purchase of Antena 3 Radio, approved when Jesús de Polanco, founder of Prisa, agreed with Javier Godó for the irruption of the Ser group in that rival radio group, which had emerged in the 1980s Specifically, Antena 3 Radio began broadcasting nationwide on May 4, 1982.

Godó's departure has materialized one day before the 40th anniversary of the anniversary

.

The Count of Godó would leave the Presidency of Antena 3 Radio in 1992. In the first 90s, Unión Radio was also created, 80% owned by Prisa and with Godó still present as a shareholder, but having already ceded control to Prisa .

Journalists from the chain such as Antonio Herrero, José María García and Manuel Martín Ferrand denounced the operation, which led to the interruption of the broadcasts of Antena 3 Radio as a general medium in 1994, with which Ser and Prisa strengthened their leadership position in the waves.

The Oughourlian Rush

The Prisa Group closed last year with losses of 106.5 million euros, compared to a profit of 89.7 million the previous year, conditioned by the capital gains generated by the sale of Santillana Spain to the Finnish company Sanoma for 465 million of euros.

In 2021, Prisa's Ebitda, excluding compensation, stood at 107 million euros, 46.2% more than in 2020, while revenues were 741 million, rising 5.8% compared to a year before.

At the end of last year,

the group's net debt reached 756 million euros

, compared to 679 million the previous year, although the company signed a refinancing agreement for this liability that "provides the company with greater flexibility to focus in the development of business", according to Prisa when announcing the approval of the accounts by the Board of Directors.
