Since its launch, the Supra GR has been offered with a strong 340 hp BMW 3-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

A year later, a new 2-litre 258 hp engine (still of BMW origin) was added to the range, also in combination with an automatic gearbox.

Toyota has listened to sports car enthusiasts and its customers, and confirms that a new Supra GR equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission will soon be introduced in Europe.

More responsive

It is therefore a new gearbox and a new clutch which have been specially designed to adapt to the power and torque characteristics of the 3-litre engine of the Supra GR.

It should also be noted that compared to the automatic transmission version, the axle ratio has been shortened for even more responsiveness.

At the same time, the braking systems and the suspension have been retuned to achieve even better performance.

Developments that will benefit all models.

Besides a different calibration of the stability control, the introduction of a new Hairpin+ function aims to make the Supra GR more fun in the most demanding situations.

In other words, to make the stability control more “forgiving” in certain circumstances.

Additionally, Track mode has been tuned to allow for easy drifting, enjoying freedom of throttle control, but with less risk of spinning thanks to precise torque control.

A lighter version

Toyota took advantage of the weight savings achieved with the new manual gearbox to add a new Lightweight model to the Supra GR range.

This benefits from other lightening measures to achieve a total reduction of 38.3 kg, compared to the 3-litre automatic model.

In addition to fitting the new manual gearbox and the new 19'' alloy rims, which already allow savings of almost 22 kg, the weight of the Lightweight version has been further reduced by 16.5 kg thanks to the replacement of the system audio, and the removal of leather upholstery and its electrical settings.

Finally, we will also note the appearance of new colors, both for the bodywork and for the leather seats, without forgetting the availability of a new Alcantara pack for the gear lever knob and gaiter.
