The French aeronautics and space sector is recruiting.

After losing jobs again in 2021, the sector wants to face the recovery, already underway, and prepare for new programs.

He therefore launched a campaign to recruit 15,000 people on permanent contracts this year.

The 410 companies of the Grouping of French Aeronautical and Space Industries (Gifas) totaled 188,000 employees at the end of 2021, or 6,000 less than in 2020 (-3%) and 14,000 less than before the health crisis, according to the professional organization which presented its report on Thursday.

But the sector resisted in favor of state aid in particular (guaranteed loan, partial unemployment) recalled Guillaume Faury, president of Gifas and also boss of Airbus during a press conference.

In 2022, the #aeronautics sector is recruiting 15,000 people (mostly #CDI), from #CAP to #BAC+8, and offers 6,000 positions in #alternating.

The “most serious crisis for the global aeronautics sector”

The number of jobs in the sector fell by 7% between the end of 2019 and the end of 2021, “mainly by natural attrition, while we lost more than 25% of activity, it is a remarkable result”, if is it praised.

After going through the crisis, "by far, far the most serious for the global aeronautics sector", activity has already started up again: the sector's turnover increased by 7.2% in 2021, to 55, 2 billion euros.

Of this total, two-thirds (37.3 billion euros) was achieved through exports, up 10%.

“We remained in 2021, the first French exporting sector”, assures Guillaume Faury.

Defense activities accounted for just over a third of this activity, with 19.5 billion euros in turnover (+18%), more than half for export.

Space weathered the crisis

Space, for its part, had “activity close to years prior” to the pandemic.

With 4.2 billion euros in turnover last year, this sector (18,000 jobs) represents almost half of the activity of the European space industry.

Orders in the aerospace sector jumped 68% to 50.1 billion euros, of which more than 50% was devoted to defence, "which bodes well for strong activity in the years to come. ".

It will therefore be necessary to recruit to ensure the upswing and prepare for technological and environmental developments in aviation.

“We are launching the “Aero recruits” campaign, which aims to recruit 15,000 people on permanent contracts this year, from CAP to Bac + 8, and 6,000 work-study students”, announced Christophe Cador, president of the Aero-PME committee within Gifas. .
