The third vice-president and minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge,

Teresa Ribera,

assured this Thursday, in relation to Algeria's announcement that it would cut off the gas supply to Spain if it is forwarded to Morocco, that "the commitment with Algeria is that not a single molecule of the gas that reaches Morocco can be attributed to gas coming from Algeria".

The vice president and minister made this statement during her participation in Seville in the Government Agenda event in Andalusia, organized by Cadena Ser, a forum in which she stated that it is "important for the Government to have good relations" with its neighbours, "both with Morocco as with Algeria".

"The agreement that we make available in commercial terms is the infrastructure for Morocco, but with the essential condition that it is Morocco that contracts the liquefied natural gas in volume through that pipe, in the opposite direction, north-south, and that it be transparent. and make public the origin of that gas and the place where that gas is unloaded so that we can be sure that the volume, origin and destination complies with that commitment to Algeria", explained the vice president and minister.

Ribera has described Algeria as "a reliable and trustworthy country" with which Spain maintains "an appreciated relationship" and about which he has indicated that they have "a very long complementary relationship, which must continue to be so".

After considering that for Algeria "it is enormously relevant that its gas does not reach Morocco", he indicated that the Government believes that it is necessary to respond "to Morocco's call for help to seek an alternative to its electrical and industrial needs", but guaranteeing that it is not fed with Algerian gas, to show that these have been the premises of the work "carried out with both countries for months".
