According to an insider, Volkswagen wants to expand its plant in the USA.

A person familiar with the plans told the Reuters news agency on Thursday that there is sufficient space for a second plant at the Chattanooga, Tennessee site.

The electric Bulli successor ID.Buzz and a battery-powered pick-up should roll off the assembly line there.

The "Manager Magazin" reported, citing unspecified parties involved, that the capacity in the USA could be expanded to up to 600,000 vehicles.

The construction of a battery cell plant is also being considered, probably near the Chattanooga plant.

Volkswagen did not comment on the information.

CEO Herbert Diess recently announced a growth plan for the United States to reduce dependence on China.

The market share in the USA, where VW is slowly picking itself up after the diesel scandal almost seven years ago, should more than double to ten percent by 2030.

Volkswagen had already announced the construction of a battery cell production facility in the USA.

On the world's largest car market in China, the Wolfsburg company recently sold around 40 percent of the vehicles.

The group generates a large part of the money there with its joint ventures that it needs for the conversion to a mobility provider.
