It is noted that the step is precautionary in nature - the company decided to consult with the Italian government and the European authorities on whether the accounts can be used to purchase Russian gas and under what conditions.

The representative of Eni refrained from commenting on this topic.

On April 27, Bloomberg reported that four European buyers of Russian gas have already paid Gazprom in rubles, and ten European companies have opened accounts with Gazprombank to make payments in accordance with the new procedure.

In addition, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said that Vienna has accepted Russia's new conditions for paying for gas.

At the same time, Gazprom suspended gas supplies to the Bulgarian Bulgargaz and the Polish PGNiG due to non-payment in rubles.
