The council reviewed the results of the performance of the tourism sector and hotel facilities in the country during 2021, and the growth rates that were achieved in many tourism indicators. The sector’s results for the year 2021 showed that hotel establishments in the country attracted 19 million hotel guests, with a growth of more than 29%, compared to the number of guests for the year 2020, while domestic tourism accounted for 58% of the total number of guests, compared to 42% for guests from outside the country.

In 2021, hotel establishments achieved revenues of 28 billion dirhams, achieving a growth of up to 70%, compared to 2020.

During the year 2021, more than 75 million hotel nights were booked, an increase of 42%, compared to 2020, while the hotel occupancy rate reached 67%, knowing that this percentage represents one of the highest rates achieved in tourist destinations in the world.

In addition, the number of hotel establishments in the country increased during 2021 by 5%, compared to its counterpart in 2020, to reach 1144 establishments, and during the same comparison period, an increase in the number of hotel rooms was achieved by 8%, to reach 194 thousand rooms in all emirates of the country.

Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises and Chairman of the Emirates Tourism Council, said, "The tourism sector in the UAE continues to achieve outstanding positive results, in light of the vision and directives of the leadership, and the concerted national efforts to develop the country's tourism environment, to be among the best destinations." tourism in the world, and to provide integrated tourism products and services that enhance the position of the UAE as a preferred and sustainable tourist destination for tourists from within the country or for international tourists.”

He pointed out the importance of the contribution of the major events and initiatives organized by the state during the past stage to achieving these results and providing national tourism with great development potentials, foremost of which is "Expo 2020 Dubai", which succeeded in attracting more than 24 million visits, and the "The Most Beautiful Winter in the World" campaign in its version. The second, which achieved within a month and a half, revenues amounted to 1.5 billion dirhams, and attracted more than 1.3 million local tourists.

Al Falasi stressed the importance of concerted efforts between the Ministry of Economy, local tourism departments and authorities and relevant government agencies, to develop integrated plans and programs for the development of foreign tourism and increase the attraction of international tourists from different countries of the world, especially in light of the significant increase in tourism recovery rates globally, and the existence of growing opportunities to open new markets.
