The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will increase the global share of Japanese manufacturers, which are declining due to fierce competition with China and South Korea, to 20% in 2030 for storage batteries, whose demand is expected to grow globally due to the spread of electric vehicles. I showed my first goal.

Global demand for storage batteries is expected to grow with the spread of electric vehicles, and it is said to be the key to efficient use of electricity from renewable energy. Due to fierce competition, the share of the global market has dropped from 40% in 2015 to 15% at the time of the event.

In light of these circumstances, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry held discussions at public-private councils and set its first goal of strengthening international competitiveness at the meeting on the 22nd.

According to this, in 2030, the production capacity of storage batteries by Japanese manufacturers will be increased to 600 gigawatt hours, which is equivalent to about 8 million electric vehicles, and the global market share will be increased to 20%.

On top of that, in order to strengthen the domestic manufacturing base, we will further expand our efforts such as financial support and training of engineers.

At the meeting, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hagiuda said, "China and South Korean companies are actively investing in storage batteries, and they are growing at a tremendous pace. Japan also needs to take a step forward and provide solid support. Yes, I think this is my last chance. "
