The Canadian city of Toronto and the province of Ontario have awarded Deutsche Bahn a contract worth billions.
The company announced this on Wednesday.
According to this, the subsidiary Deutsche Bahn International Operations will take over the planning, operation and maintenance of a 450-kilometer local transport network as part of a joint venture.
According to DB, the order volume is in the tens of billions, and the contract will run for 25 years.
The 450-kilometer route network is to be completely modernized and expanded.
"The transport project is considered the most important in the history of Canada," said DB Infrastructure Board Member Ronald Pofalla.
“The enormous transfer of technology and knowledge and the experience that we are gaining in Canada are of direct benefit to the railways in Germany.
The profits also flow into our German network.”
The rail subsidiary International Operations specializes in the operation and maintenance of rail transport systems and is responsible for international operator projects outside of Europe.
