During the meeting held yesterday, the Board of Directors reviewed a report on the Authority’s development projects to improve the procedures applied in the tax system, in accordance with best practices, and to raise the quality of services provided to its clients through digital mechanisms characterized by speed, accuracy and ease, by implementing a set of procedures and initiatives aimed at more Improving the operational performance of the authority through continuous follow-up and development, to raise the efficiency of the tax system to meet the aspirations of taxpayers, in addition to the Board’s review of the developments in the implementation of the corporate tax law.

His Highness stressed that "the reports that were reviewed during the meeting showed that the authority continues to maintain high performance rates in all its activities, while continuing its development plans to upgrade the level of its services to achieve the happiness of customers from all segments of society," referring to the authority's keenness to strengthen its relations with all concerned authorities. Applying the tax system in the public and private sectors, to play its role in contributing to the implementation of policies to diversify the national economy, through the management and collection of federal taxes based on best practices.

His Highness said: "The authority is constantly reviewing its executive procedures for tax legislation to achieve the highest levels of efficiency in performance and simplify procedures. The next phase will witness further development and modernization of tax systems and procedures, to continuously improve the quality of services provided by the authority."

Achievements Report

The authority’s board of directors reviewed a report on the authority’s achievements during the past year and the first quarter of this year. It reviewed the developments of existing projects and statistics related to value-added tax and excise tax, receiving periodic returns, paying due taxes, and processing refund requests.

The report showed a high rate of tax compliance, and an increase in the number of those registered with the authority, as the number of those registered for value added tax at the end of the first quarter of 2022 increased to 367,157, compared to 358,468 at the end of 2021, a growth of 2.42% within three months.

The number of selective tax registrations also increased to 1,398, compared to 1,357 registered, a growth of 3.02% during the same period, while the number of tax agents increased to 446 at the end of the first quarter of this year, compared to 433 at the end of last year, an increase of 3%.

Housing Tax Refund

According to the report, which was reviewed by the Board of Directors, the authority has approved new requests for citizens who have recovered the tax they paid on building their homes, at a value of 185.03 million dirhams, during the first quarter of this year, compared to 118.5 million dirhams during the first quarter of 2021, with a growth rate of 56.15. %, as a result of the simplified electronic procedures applied by the authority to refund citizens the tax paid for building their new homes, in implementation of the vision of the wise leadership to develop a modern housing system for citizens, and provide them with the best standards of life and a comfortable living as the primary goal of the initiatives and projects implemented by state institutions.

The report indicated that the tax refund system for tourists witnessed significant increases, in light of the easing of global restrictions on travel and the country’s hosting of the “Expo 2020 Dubai” exhibition, and the increase in tourism activity in the country, as the total value of tax amounts refunded to tourists increased by 85.22% during the quarter. the first of this year, compared to the same period last year.

Distinctive Marking System

The report reviewed the results of the implementation of the first and second phases of the distinctive marking system on tobacco and its products, which aims to prevent the sale (circulation) and possession of all types of cigarettes, waterpipe tobacco and electrically heated cigarette rolls that do not bear “digital tax stamps” in the local markets.
