Today, the commercialization of the Euler operating system openEuler has made substantial progress.

  On April 15th, the openEuler open source community officially released Euler's first community co-construction version after open source, Euler's ecological service platform.

Sun Wenlong, secretary general of the Open Atom Open Source Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Open Source Foundation), said that at present, the Euler Ecosystem has attracted hundreds of domestic and foreign manufacturers to join, with more than 8,000 mainstream community contributors, and Euler's global download volume exceeds 470,000.

  With the entry of many manufacturers, the Euler ecosystem is expanding rapidly.

Liang Bing, chairman of the ORA Open Source Community Brand Committee, said in an interview with the "Securities Daily" reporter: "Up to now, more than 330 companies have joined the ORA open source community ecosystem." She revealed that the ORA and Hongmeng systems will be further connected to achieve Self-discovery and self-connection.

Euler will achieve more access with the "Legion" established by Huawei, and will establish a vertical technical team this year to innovate ecologically.

  Talking about Euler's current progress in technology, ecology, business, etc., Changjiang Dayong, director of Euler's open source community, said that the total installed capacity of the entire Euler system has exceeded 1.3 million units, and the scale is used in government, operators, finance, energy, transportation. , Internet and other industries, among which the government and operator industries have the largest new share. "In 2022, we expect Euler's applications in the industry to increase by 2 million sets."

  Compared with Hongmeng, which has attracted much attention, Euler has always been low-key.

  On April 15th, the Open Source Foundation brought Euler's latest news: Euler's first community co-construction version after open source was officially released. This is also the first long-term version in my country that supports the integration of digital infrastructure in all scenarios. Developers build digital infrastructure operating systems for all scenarios.

  Liang Bing said that the long-cycle version currently supports multi-dimensional computing, and mainstream chip manufacturers can be found in the community.

  In September last year, Huawei launched the Euler operating system, and two months later announced that it would donate system code and other related assets to the Open Source Foundation.

It is understood that the launch of the Euler long-cycle version means that this version will receive long-term technical support from the open source community, usually with a cycle of no less than 5 years.

  "The emergence of the long-cycle version means that Euler has gradually matured and has remained stable for a long period of time, marking that Euler has the foundation for mature commercial use." Huawei Cloud MVP Ma Chao told the "Securities Daily" reporter.

  At the same time, Euler’s circle of friends has gradually expanded. Chip, machine, and software manufacturers such as Intel, Hyperfusion, H3C, Kirin, and Tongxin have also announced that they will soon launch a commercial release based on Euler’s long-cycle version. Euler’s partner manufacturers There are also many listed companies such as Tuowei Information and Yuxin Technology.

  Yuan Bo, a communications engineer, believes, "From the composition of the participating manufacturers, we can see that, as an exclusive operating system for digital infrastructure, Euler has opened up the industry chain from the bottom end to the application end."

  Judging from the commercial situation of Euler, Huawei has promised not to make its own commercial distribution.

Liang Bing said that many manufacturers have launched commercial distributions.

"Euler is already in the development and commercial stage in industries such as finance and energy, and will further prosper the diverse computing ecosystem."

  According to a report released by CCID Consulting, mainstream domestic operating system manufacturers have developed commercial versions of server operating systems based on openEuler.

In 2021, the overall installed capacity of openEuler series products will exceed 1.02 million sets, of which the installed capacity of physical machines will reach 527,000 sets, and the installed capacity of commercial distributions will reach 345,000 sets.

  "The rapid growth of the Euler camp is related to the launch of a more stable long-cycle version. However, the current long-cycle version is more about the stability of the operating system kernel, and the peripheral drivers must also keep pace with the times, especially In terms of chips, new models of chips will have more accelerated instruction sets. To maintain the vitality of the long-cycle version, chip manufacturers and other manufacturers need to contribute targeted optimization codes.” Ma Chao said.

The development path is clearer

  This time, with the exposure of more commercial layouts, Euler's development route is also clearer. Jiang Dayong said that openEuler will continue to explore and innovate technologies in four scenarios: server, cloud computing, edge computing and embedded.

  It is worth noting that the application scope of Euler has changed from focusing on cloud servers to continuous expansion to embedded and other fields, which overlaps with Hongmeng system in the field of embedded terminals.

"In the future, in addition to sharing the underlying technology, Hongmeng and Euler will also back up each other. It's just that Euler is inclined to the cloud and Hongmeng is to the end, but in the embedded field, it is not ruled out that the two will 'compete' on the same stage." Ma Chao believes.

  In this regard, Jiang Dayong said that Euler's further expansion of embedded devices will overlap with Hongmeng in the industrial field, but it will not conflict.

  At the same time, Euler and Hongmeng will have more intersections with Huawei and penetrate into many vertical business scenarios.

At present, Huawei has established 15 corps, including the coal mine corps and the electric power digitization corps.

  Liang Bing revealed, "Next, Euler and Hongkuang will achieve more connections. This year, Euler's vertical technology team will be established to open up vertical stations in many fields such as finance and AI and realize innovative traction work."

  Jiang Dayong told the "Securities Daily" reporter that the self-discovery of Euler and Hongmeng is still being explored. In the future, Euler and Hongmeng will further share technology and communicate ecologically.

Hongmeng will realize more functions of traditional smart devices through Euler, and more capabilities of Euler and Hongmeng will also be integrated in the system version.

For example, when Huawei "Legion" needs an operating system, Euler and Hongmeng will fully cooperate.

By focusing on vertical business fields and overseas markets, the installed capacity of ORA series products is expected to continue to increase.

  Yuan Bo believes that Euler has created a precedent for the commercial use of domestic operating systems on the B side, and has also entered the stage of industrial co-construction, but it is not yet profitable, but whether it is its own development or more collaboration with Hongmeng, it will be Further promoting the commercialization of Chinese operating systems is also an important exploration in the development of Chinese operating systems. However, Euler still faces challenges such as ecological fragmentation, repeated application development, and how to establish a technological iterative capability that can fight a "protracted war".
