Pasta sales soar in France due to the war in Ukraine.

Illustration with the French company Lustucru, which multiplied its sales by 1.5 last March, a record level and comparable to that of the first confinement.

The commercial director, however, believes that this surge in sales will be difficult for the company to follow.

With the health crisis and the war in Ukraine, purchases of pasta are soaring in France.

This is what Sandrine Denoual, sales and marketing director of the French company Lustucru, points out in the program

"The March sales (2022) correspond to the sales we had during the first confinement", she explains at the microphone of Elisabeth Assayag.

This is the record level for the group, which has multiplied its usual sales by 1.5.

"Our production lines are struggling to keep up with demand"

This rush of the French on the purchase of pasta in the supermarket comes in a context of Russian invasion of Ukraine, one of the major cereal producing countries, which raises fears of a world food crisis.

Sandrine Denoual indicates that this surge in sales remains difficult to tame.

"It's very complicated for companies like us. That's why you have shortages of pasta on the shelves," she explains on Europe 1.

"There are jolts like that", continues the commercial director, "when there was a shortage of wheat, when we had a lot of trouble working French wheat... We left in zero stock unlike the Covid, where all the pasta companies had stocks."

Sandrine Denoual confesses that "to manage to follow the demands of the French, today, we are all running after packaging, wheat, and our production lines are struggling to keep up with demand."
