Faced with the increase in flooding, the Pays de Meaux (Seine-et-Marne) has decided to act.

The agglomeration community will introduce a new tax this year to better fight against this phenomenon, reports

La Marne

.

The elected members of the community council voted unanimously in favor of this new tax this Friday.

The latter will appear in the detail of the property tax, in a new column “Gemapi” (Management of aquatic environments and flood prevention).

It will be 18 euros per person.

Works and restoration of ecosystems

All the inhabitants of the Pays de Meaux are concerned, even those who do not live near a river likely to cause a flood.

It will be used to finance the 2 million euros of work needed to better prevent or limit flooding in the area.

“With this money, we will carry out the maintenance of the basins, the dikes, the banks and we will restore the ecosystems”, detailed the first vice-president, delegate for sustainable development, of the agglomeration community.

The opposition is not against this measure but simply regrets that “the polluters” do not pay more than the others.
