made it known this morning that he would not be joining the board," he explained in a message to Twitter staff, who shared it on the platform.
"We appreciate and always will continue to appreciate the participation of our shareholders, whether or not they have a seat on our board.
Elon is our largest shareholder and we will continue to be open to his participation
," he added.
Musk, the world's richest man, announced in early April that he had acquired a
9.2% stake in Twitter
, making him the largest shareholder.
He specified in the document transmitted to the stock market regulator that this
participation was "passive"
