On April 9, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the general airport construction project in Yecheng County, Kashi, Xinjiang. The airport is scheduled to be completed and open to navigation by the end of 2023.

The project is located in the southeast of Yecheng County. After the airport is completed, it will provide timely and efficient services of people flow, logistics and information flow, which is of great significance to promoting the high-quality economic development of Kashgar.

Yecheng County is located in the southwest of Xinjiang, at the northern foot of the Karakoram Mountains, on the southwestern edge of the Tarim Basin, more than 1,600 kilometers away from the capital Urumqi, and nearly 300 kilometers away from Kashgar City.

The 219 National Road starts from Yecheng and connects with the 315 National Road. It reaches the Shiquan River in the south, which is an important passage connecting Xinjiang and Tibet.

Yecheng is rich in walnuts and is the largest walnut producing area in Xinjiang.

Therefore, it is known as the "Hometown of Walnuts".
