Danone France

will have the former Foreign Minister Arantxa González Laya as an expert

within a committee that will supervise, together with other specialists, the company's commitments on issues of sustainability and good practices.

The company has denied that the former minister has been hired and has stressed that "

she is not an employee of Danone nor has she been hired

to exercise any type of position of representation or influence within the company."

They clarify

that the French multinational has the status of "Company with a Mission"

(Sociétté à mission).

They are those companies that are committed to objectives that transcend the business at a social, environmental, transparency and good governance level.

This status is governed

by the Business Growth and Transformation Law

(loi pacte) approved in France in December 2019, and

obliges companies to rely on an "external

, independent and unrelated to company management" committee, whose mission is evaluate compliance with that commitment.

They also have to present an annual report on the achievement of objectives and, where appropriate, propose any modification to the work plan carried out by the company.

González Laya

will form part of this team,

which will meet about twice a year, company sources explain.

He will participate in this team "because of his experience within the World Trade Organization, but he is not part of the Danone staff nor will he have any responsibility," these sources explain.
