The China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing announced today (6th) the global manufacturing purchasing managers' index for March.

Changes in the index show that under the dual influence of the epidemic and geopolitical conflicts, the growth rate of the global manufacturing industry has slowed down.

In March, the global manufacturing purchasing managers' index was 54.1%, a decrease of 0.8 percentage points from the previous month and a decrease of 3.7 percentage points from the same period last year.

In terms of sub-regions, the manufacturing PMIs in Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa all decreased to varying degrees from the previous month, with the most significant decline in the European manufacturing PMIs.

From the perspective of supply, geopolitical conflicts have exacerbated the supply shock originally caused by the epidemic. The rise in the prices of bulk raw materials, mainly energy and food, has increased inflationary pressures and increased supply cost pressures; geopolitical conflicts have led to obstruction of international transportation and supply efficiency. has declined.

From the perspective of demand, the decline in the global manufacturing PMI reflects the problem of demand contraction to a certain extent, especially in the four regions of Asia, Europe, America and Africa, the manufacturing PMI has declined, which means that the problem of demand contraction is a common problem facing the world in the short term. .

From the perspective of expectations, in the face of the combined impact of the epidemic and geopolitical conflicts, international organizations have lowered their economic growth forecasts for 2022.

A recent report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development downgraded its forecast for global economic growth in 2022 from 3.6% to 2.6%.

The International Monetary Fund will cut its forecast for global economic growth when it releases its latest forecast in April.

Experts reminded that the downward pressure brought by the dual impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and geopolitical conflicts on the global economic recovery cannot be ignored.

On the one hand, the continuously intensifying inflationary pressure has led many countries to accelerate the process of raising interest rates, and the cost of economic operation will increase, thus inhibiting the progress of economic recovery.

On the other hand, geopolitical conflicts are changing the energy trade pattern and supply chain layout, which is not conducive to the coordinated development of the global economy, exacerbating trade frictions, and leading to the rise of trade protectionism and unilateralism.

Experts said that the key to sustained global economic recovery is openness, cooperation and inclusive development.

Encouraging multilateral trade cooperation should be the main appeal for countries around the world to resist the impact of the epidemic and achieve common recovery.

Regional cooperation represented by RCEP and the African Free Trade Area is a model for strengthening multilateral cooperation, and its gradual advancement will help promote world economic and trade cooperation and development.
