Another member of the family moves into the top management of the Bertelsmann media group: Carsten Coesfeld, the 34-year-old grandson of the company patriarch Reinhard Mohn, is appointed to the Group Management Committee (GMC), which advises the media group's board of directors on questions of strategy and corporate development .

In addition to Coesfeld, Jan Altersten, who has been in charge of the financial services division Arvato Financial Solutions for over a year, will also join the GMC on June 1.

At the same time, Carsten Coesfeld's career is taking an exciting turn: on June 1, he will become head of Bertelsmann Investments.

Coesfeld, who started his career at Goldman Sachs in London, is therefore responsible for the approximately 300 investments currently held by the company.

Above all, however, it is his job to open up and develop future business areas for the family company.

There is enough money for it.

Bertelsmann boss Thomas Rabe recently announced that 5 to 7 billion euros would be available for future topics by 2025.

According to Bertelsmann, an initial focus is on the market for digital business in the healthcare sector.

For Carsten Coesfeld, this task should also be a test for a later possible appointment as CEO.

He started at Bertelsmann in 2011 as an assistant to the CEO, then held positions in several divisions of the group and spent the last two years realigning the DK publishing house in London.

His brother Thomas Coesfeld, who is three years his junior, is also in a position as CFO of the music division BMG that qualifies him for higher things.

The brothers belong to the family of Reinhard Mohn's first wife, but were systematically supported by his future wife Liz Mohn.
