Hanno Berger, currently probably the most prominent prisoner on remand in Hesse, is spared the double burden of two criminal proceedings for the time being.

The start of the trial against the tax attorney before the Wiesbaden district court, which is planned for next week, has been postponed again, as the court announced on Tuesday morning.

The new start in the proceedings for tax evasion in connection with cum-ex stock transactions is scheduled for June 2, 2022.

In addition, the Economic Criminal Court determined eleven further dates into August.

The reason for this is that it is necessary for the public defender to further familiarize himself with the extensive files, the court said.

Only a few weeks ago, Berger was extradited to Germany by the Swiss judiciary.

Since then, the 71-year-old lawyer has been in the prison in Frankfurt-Preungesheim.

The public prosecutor's office accuses him of having organized joint stock transactions around the dividend date as "Spiritus Rector" from 2006 together with former employees of Hypo-Vereinsbank.

The process had to be postponed several times due to the corona pandemic, and Berger stayed away from the actual start of the process in March 2021 for health reasons.

Since Monday he has also had to answer for other cum-ex deals before the Bonn Regional Court, where the first witnesses are to be heard on Thursday.
