Dubai's foreign trade for the food sector recorded a growth of 11% with a total value of 57 billion dirhams during 2021, compared to 51.4 billion dirhams for the same sector in 2020, according to statistical data issued by the Dubai Customs Department.

The statistics showed an increase in exports by 11.3% to 10.8 billion dirhams in 2021, compared to 9.7 billion dirhams in 2020, and re-exports by 10% to 7.9 billion dirhams, compared to 7.2 billion dirhams, and imports by 11% to 38.2 billion dirhams. , compared to 34.4 billion dirhams in 2020.

In turn, Dubai's trade in foodstuffs during 2021 amounted to about 14.1 million tons, distributed as 9.9 million tons of imports, three million tons of exports, and 1.1 million tons of re-exports.

He added: "Food advances to the first place in the priorities of facilitating the movement of trade through customs centers, in preparation for the holy month, to meet the increase in the demand for purchasing food products, especially with the return of Ramadan tents activity this year."

Mosbeh continued: “Food trade is one of the most prominent sectors benefiting from the smart customs services and procedures that the department provides to traders and investors, due to the nature of foodstuffs that need prompt customs clearance, in conjunction with completing the procedures used to ensure food safety, and then reaching the consumer with the best specifications. He stressed that Dubai Customs invests continuously and intensively in developing its services in a smart, fast and highly efficient manner, in accordance with the best international specifications and standards.

He explained that the advanced and innovative systems of "Dubai Customs" completed 21.3 million customs declarations, a growth of 54.3% during 2021, compared to 13.8 million customs declarations in 2020, which means that the Department's technical programs succeeded in completing an average of 58.3 thousand customs declarations per day. During the year 2021, a huge number that would not have been achieved without the innovation and development of smart customs systems, which speed up processes and simplify procedures, with the benefit of merchants as a result of reducing costs and shortening time.
