The McKinsey affair invites itself in the presidential election, ten days before the first round.

A senatorial report denounces the sums spent by the government, and criticizes the consulting firm for not paying taxes in France.

An accusation denied by the American group, but there are still gray areas.

The report of the Senate commission of inquiry on the consulting firm McKinsey is causing a stir in the presidential campaign.

He denounces the colossal sums spent by the government for reports commissioned from the American study firm, and accuses McKinsey of not paying taxes in France for ten years, which the group denied in a press release.

In this writing, the private firm indicates that it has paid more than 442 million euros in taxes and social charges in ten years, or 20% of its turnover.

In these taxes, there are for example the employer's contributions of the employees of the company.

But the McKinsey firm does not comment on the payment of corporation tax.

On this subject, the answer is no according to the Senate committee which assures that the American group has not paid a cent of this tax.

Negative results from a sleight of hand?

For its part, the Ministry of the Economy explains that there are no corporate taxes when there are no profits, and McKinsey has always presented negative results.

It is on this point that the investigation by the Directorate General of Finance will focus: do these negative results reflect reality?

Or, was there a tax optimization sleight of hand to evade taxes?

According to someone close to the case, this investigation would have already started in mid-November before the publication of the report of the Senate committee, but there is no date of conclusion yet.

On Wednesday, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire clarified on Europe 1 that "tax audits" were already underway concerning McKinsey.
