[Explanation] The last week of March every year is China Anesthesia Week. A reporter from China News Agency recently came to the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University to visit the daily work of the "Guardian of Life" anesthesiologist.

Under the shadowless lamp, surgeons and nurses cooperated to perform the operation. Anesthesiologist Gao Ruiping next to the operating table paid attention to the progress of the operation, as well as the dynamic data such as the patient's pulse, blood pressure, and electrocardiogram on the equipment.

Gao Ruiping, deputy director of the Department of Anesthesiology, admitted that the above picture is only a part of the work, but it is misunderstood by many people that this is the whole work.

(Everyone thinks) anesthesia is an injection, it's that simple, why do patients or family members have such an impression, (because) when the patient is awake, our anesthesiologist performs a lumbar puncture. At this time, he thinks it's an injection One stitch made his operation go smoothly, but that's not the case.

[Explanation] Gao Ruiping said that the work of anesthesiologists goes far beyond the literal meaning of anesthesia, not only to implement anesthesia during the operation, but also to review the patient's medical history before the operation and provide psychological counseling.

Even after the operation is over, the patient should be followed up to ensure the safety of the patient throughout the process.

Gao Ruiping has been engaged in clinical, teaching and scientific research for more than 30 years. She is good at anesthesia management of critically ill patients. She has cooperated with neurosurgeons to successfully carry out the first intraoperative wake-up anesthesia in Gansu Province.

When reviewing the development and changes of anesthesia technology, she said that in the past, anesthesia relied more on the experience of doctors.

In the (1980s and 1990s) our anesthesia work was almost manual, using cotton (for example) placed in the patient's nostrils to observe his breathing, which depended on the experience of the anesthesiologist. For intraoperative management, with the development of science and technology, sophisticated modern instruments and equipment have made our anesthesia from empirical anesthesia to precision anesthesia.

[Explanation] Wang Yanwei, a surgeon at the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University, told reporters that during the operation, the operation of the anesthesiologist is related to the life of the patient.

For our surgeons, anesthesiologists are our very important good helpers. During the entire operation, the stability of (patients) vital signs must be escorted by the anesthesiologists.

[Explanation] At present, anesthesia has been widely used in various operations, but many people are worried that anesthesia will affect intelligence and memory.

In this regard, Wang Yingbin, chairman of the Anesthesiology Branch of the Gansu Medical Association and director of the Anesthesiology Department of the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University, said that there is no need to worry.

Especially like outpatient (such as) painless gastrointestinal endoscopy, whether these examinations (anesthesia during the process) will affect the patient's intelligence, (now) the controllability, reversibility, safety, and effectiveness of our anesthesia are all very important. Okay, after these drugs are used up, the (anesthetic effect) is almost eliminated, and it has no random superimposed effect. There is no need to worry about the effect of anesthesia on our intelligence or body.
