is a friendly economic time.

Today (30th), reporter Jeon Yeon-nam of the Ministry of Economy is here.

After the corona virus, you have been spending a lot of time at home.

At the same time, I think that I also spend more time on the Internet, but what about the former reporter?

<Reporter>

Yes, even when I'm at work or after work, I don't really have time to not use the Internet. I think there are some viewers right now who use the Internet while watching SNS or portals on their mobile phones at the same time with the TV turned on.

Now in 2022, the Internet is as essential as air, so I thought that people in other countries would use the Internet a lot like us, but Koreans were ranked number 1 in Asia because they use the Internet a lot. It turns out that you spend 34 years online.

If we say that we usually live over the age of 80, it means that we spend almost half of our lives on the Internet.

Looking at other countries, Taiwan and Singapore were followed by Korea at 33 and 27 years, respectively.

In Japan, it was found that almost one-third of Koreans do not use the Internet.

No, really, looking at this comparison, I can really feel that Koreans use the Internet a lot.

But what do you usually do?

<Reporter>

I was curious about that too, and they say that average Koreans use the Internet for about 51 hours a week on average.

However, if you exclude the amount of time you work here, about 20 hours of this was found to be watching videos on YouTube, online video services, or OTT.

So, even if we can't do it a day, we watch videos every day for over 2 hours.

Since this has become a daily routine, several OTT services have appeared and subscription has become a necessity.

If you want to see all the videos you want to see again, you usually sign up for two or three OTTs.

So, when you look at the monthly fee, you may be surprised at how expensive it is.

However, from next month, the price may be higher.

Among domestic OTTs, Teabing, Season, and Wave announced that they would raise their rates by 15% for in-app payment users starting next month.

In other words, if you go into the mobile phone app and pay, you can think of it as about 2,000 won more expensive than it is now.

So, if you pay through the mobile phone app, you have to pay more than you do now, the fee.

But why are the rates going up so conditionally?

<Reporter>

Yes, it's because of Google. Google said that from next month, if we turn on the mobile phone app and buy and pay for something in it, they will take up to 30% as a commission.

What this means is that you must have visited the Google Play Store installed on your phone when downloading an app, but think of it as a supermarket dedicated to displaying and selling apps.

However, Google said that it would charge a fee similar to a toll for all apps in its supermarket in the future.

Apple is already taking fees this way.

To put it simply, if I open the app on my phone and pay 1 million won, Google or Apple will take up to 300,000 won in commission, and the company that makes and manages the app gets only 700,000 won.

Because of this, OTTs have no choice but to raise their fees for users who pay through mobile phone apps to cry and eat mustard in order not to lose their fees.

So, it is not likely that the OTT app is installed on your smartphone.

Then, if you pay through that app, you will have to pay more from the next month.

Then only consumers will have to pay more in the end, so isn't there a way to do it?

<Reporter> The

government also thought that this was not the case, saying that this should be prevented, and last year, the 'Google Gaps Prevention Act' was also created.

Even so, not only Google but also Apple are saying they will pass the Korean law and just take the fee as it is.

Because of this situation, our consumers have no choice but to respond smartly.

So what should I do?

Just don't pay on your phone.

As I said before, it is because the fee is expensive only if you enter the OTT app on your mobile phone and pay.

It may be a little inconvenient, but if you turn on your computer and directly go to the OTT website and pay, you can pay the original fee as it is, so please remember this part.

In addition, even those who have made automatic payments can use the original price as it is.
