Fukushima Prefecture's local government and automobile manufacturers will collaborate on a project that aims to supply all electricity in the region with renewable energy.

EV = Utilizing a system that stores electricity in electric vehicles, we will prepare for emergencies when the supply and demand of electricity is tight.

The cooperation is Namie Town, Futaba Town, Minamisoma City and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in Fukushima Prefecture.

We aim to store electricity from solar and wind power in EVs and to supply all the electricity in the region from renewable energy.

At the roadside station in Namie-cho, this system started to operate, and electricity is stored in five EV public cars parked in the parking lot, and AI = artificial intelligence is used for daily car usage and facilities. We analyze the usage of electricity and efficiently send the stored electricity to the facilities at the roadside station.

We would like to extend a similar system to other local governments by being able to use electricity derived from solar and wind power, which is easily affected by the weather, without waste.

This month, thermal power plants in the Kanto and Tohoku regions were shut down due to an earthquake, and the supply and demand of electricity became severe. However, we are aiming to prepare for emergencies by using EVs instead of storage batteries.

Mr. Mitsuhiro Doi, Managing Director of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., said, "Cars occupy 80% to 90% of the time they are parked, so I want to make good use of this time."
