The Vice President of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, postpones the entry into force of the intervention of the electricity market in Spain for "three or four weeks" after the European Council approved yesterday to recognize the "Iberian exception" at the energy level.
Spain has already designed its proposal and plans to send it to Brussels "in principle this week", as Ribera explained in statements to the 24-hour channel.
From there, a rapid supervision process will be initiated by the Community Executive to verify that the Spanish measure does not distort the European market and complies with community regulations.
"The Commission will need a few days, a few weeks to verify that everything is correct or recommend us to introduce improvements and we calculate that in three or four weeks we will be able to have a pronouncement from the Commission on what we are proposing and make it immediately operational", explained Ribera.
The ecological vice president has once again explained that Spain's intention is to decouple the price of gas from the electricity market so that it does not contaminate that generated by other energy sources.
"You have to pay for gas in any case, but we want that price of gas not to be the price at which the rest of the electricity produced is paid, which has a cheaper price. What we will do is separate the gas from the mechanism of price formation", he pointed out.
In his words, the agreement this Friday in Brussels to take measures to lower energy prices in Spain "was essential."
Thus, he has stressed that it was "essential" that the Council "allow this to be done" since if the European rules had not been "broken".
