They have had to go through 12 days of strikes and protests throughout the country, the near collapse of the supply and distribution chain, the losses in factories and companies in sectors such as agri-food, the shortage of many supermarkets and the spread of social unrest to general level so that the Government has accepted to receive the calling platform of the transporters' strikes.

Its president, Manuel Hernández, was not worth today the more than 1,000 million that the Executive has put on the table in the form of aid, because what he wanted, already with the detailed measures, was to have a direct dialogue with the minister Raquel Sánchez .

He got it.

The meeting took place at 5:00 p.m. in the afternoon, but it has served almost nothing, because Hernández, the platform he represents and a part of the strikers have decided to continue with the protests in the face of demands that they do not consider satisfied by part of the Executive.

"It has promised to present us with a draft law within two or three months to guarantee the impossibility of being able to contract transport at a loss, but we consider that in these two or three months, due to the situation of total bankruptcy, we need some transitory measure that guarantees that until this law can be carried out, we cannot continue in the situation we were in when the strike began. The minister informs us that at the moment they do not see the possibility of this transitory option and, therefore,

We believe that the current economic situation in the sector is not being responded to and we have no choice but to continue in the situation we were in.

We hope that in the next few days they will rethink what we have been explaining to them.

Our situation is chaotic, it is very serious, it costs us money to go out to work, let society be clear, and although they commit to regulating hiring, while provisional and transitory measures are needed to guarantee us that if we start on Monday, we do not have money.

And if this ministry or the State does not offer us that possibility, we cannot call off this strike and therefore, irremediably and much to our regret, we will continue with the indefinite national strike," Hernández said at the end of the meeting.

The crisis in the sector has been rising in level as the days passed.

What began as claims to pay less for professional diesel, whose price has skyrocketed after the invasion of Ukraine, soon mutated into a quasi-ideological conflict in which no one wanted to budge.

Minister Raquel Sánchez's statements unleashed unrest among the strikers, who on several occasions have claimed to feel "criminalized."

The person in charge of Transport did not hesitate to refer to them as "

a minority of ultras, in many cases from the extreme right

, who are using acts of violence to vindicate" and did not hesitate to reject them as valid interlocutors. "I am not going to sit down with a group of radicals who are acting with violence," he said in the middle of the protests. The events this Friday have blurred his words.

Her position was supported by other Cabinet colleagues such as the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, and this verbal confrontation has been one of the reasons that has delayed the resolution of the conflict.

The Government underestimated the scope of the calls and the capacity of the organizers and only when the collapse became very evident, did it agree to the negotiation.

Of course, not with the platform but with the National Committee for Road Transport (CNTC), with which he finally sealed an aid package for more than 1,000 million euros in the early hours of Thursday to Friday.

For Manuel Hernández and for a good part of the strikers, the result is an "insufficient" agreement, "crumbs" and "ridiculous" measures, which is why they have planted themselves in the vicinity of the Ministry of Transport in a morning protest and hence also why They continued to demand a meeting with its owner. Sánchez has agreed but made it clear from the first moment that it would be a "pedagogical" and informative meeting, that is, that in no case did he intend to renegotiate or expand the measures that had already been announced.

So once the photo was taken, the failure has been verified: while the Government continues without taking into account the demands of the platform, a part of its promoters maintain the pulse and the mobilizations.
