Mubadala Petroleum announces the flow of gas from the Bejaga field in Malaysia

Mubadala Petroleum, the Abu Dhabi-based international energy company, has announced the start of gas flow from the Bejaga gas field located in SK 320 off the Malaysian coast.

This achievement represents a safe and successful culmination of the project, during a period in which Mubadala Petroleum successfully overcame the many challenges imposed by the pandemic.

As it is a major strategic project to supplement the local energy sector, Bijaga will be the main production field to supply gas to the Petronas LNG complex located in the coastal town of Bintulu in the state of Sarawak in Malaysia.

The CEO of Mubadala Petroleum, Mansour Mohamed Al Hamed, said, "The success of the completion of the (Bejaja) gas field is a milestone for all of us, as we were able to move this project from the exploration stage to development, and then production, with the support of the Malaysian Petroleum Administration. Petronas, our partners and contractors.

As the operator of this field, we commend this achievement on the high efficiency of our cadres, our high flexibility, and our commitment as an energy provider through our strategic focus on gas as the main fuel for the energy transition, which reflects our ambition as a long-term investor and strategic partner in the energy sector.”

Vice President of the Malaysian Petroleum Department, Muhammad Firoz Asan, said: “On behalf of Petronas, I would like to congratulate Mubadala Petroleum and its partners on achieving this important achievement, given the high potential of the (Bijja) field, which enables it to contribute to securing Malaysian gas supplies. for several decades to come.”

He added: “This project reflects the confidence of investors in the Malaysian exploration and production sector.

The country’s entrepreneurship ecosystem has also proven resilient by successfully completing the design and manufacturing of the platform during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Mubadala Petroleum has been in Malaysia since 2010, and is the operator of the SK 320 block with a 55% stake. Petronas Carigali, a subsidiary of Petronas, owns a 25% stake, while the remaining 20% ​​belongs to Sarawak Shell Berhad.
