Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has confirmed that the integrated strategy for managing water resources in Dubai includes reducing water consumption by 30% by 2030.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of the authority, said that the authority is working within the framework of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to continue developing a world-class infrastructure that keeps pace with the increasing demand for electricity and water in Dubai. Providing services according to the highest international standards for more than one million customers, in addition to ensuring the sustainability of water resources, in line with the integrated strategy for water resources management in Dubai, which focuses on enhancing water resources, rationalizing consumption, and using the latest technologies and innovative solutions.

In a statement on the occasion of "World Water Day 2022", he added that the strategy includes reducing water consumption by 30% by 2030, pointing out that the total water production capacity in the authority is 490 million gallons of water per day, of which 63 million gallons are using reverse osmosis technology. This is in the Jebel Ali plant complex for power production and water desalination, which is one of the main pillars for providing the Emirate of Dubai with electricity and water services.

Al Tayer stressed that the authority continues to develop innovative proactive solutions, relying on its advanced smart network, and the latest technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with the aim of raising efficiency and rationalizing consumption.

He pointed out that the authority has installed more than two million smart electricity and water meters in Dubai, to enable customers to monitor, manage and control their consumption in a proactive and digital manner, indicating that the smart and interconnected systems used by the authority to manage all its facilities and services, allow raising operational efficiency and reducing the percentage of waste. In water transmission and distribution networks, which decreased from 42% in 1988 to 5.3% in 2021, and is one of the lowest rates in the world.
