The consequences of the war in Ukraine affect all sectors of activity, including the air world.

The Air France and KLM companies announced on Thursday that they were increasing the price of their plane tickets, reports

Capital

.

The measure currently affects only long-haul flights "for an amount which varies according to the destination and the travel offer", said a spokesperson for the airlines.

The increase does not apply to tickets sold before this date.

According to

RTBF

, the increase is equivalent to 40 euros for a flight between Amsterdam and New York.

Many companies involved?

As fuel represents 20 to 30% of the overall cost of air travel, the rise in oil prices and the conflict between Ukraine and Russia therefore have a direct impact on flight prices.

For the moment, only flights outside Europe are concerned.

After these two companies, others like Lufthansa and its subsidiary Brussels Airlines could follow the same path.

Marc Rochet, general manager of Air Caraïbes interviewed by

Le Monde

, indicated that ticket prices could increase by 15 to 20% in the coming weeks.
