The Dubai Chamber of Commerce announced the establishment of a new business group under its umbrella, called the "Dubai Wooden Ship Council".

She stated that the establishment of the group constitutes a step to unify the efforts of companies operating and investing in this sector, serving their goals, interests and professional activities, in addition to strengthening its communication with the relevant government agencies with regard to legislation, initiatives and services that serve their institutional activities and provide them with an added value in the work environment.

During a meeting that included the Director General of Dubai Chambers, Hamad Mubarak Buamim, the Chairman of the Dubai Council of Wooden Ships, Hamad Ahmed bin Fahd, and the founding members, the two sides discussed opportunities to support the wooden ship sector and enhance its contributions to economic growth.

They also discussed coordinating joint efforts and setting priorities for the future period.

Hamad Mubarak Buamim said that the establishment of the "Dubai Wooden Ship Council" aims to unify efforts to serve this important sector, which is linked to the history of the Emirate of Dubai, and its vital role in supporting the global trade system in the emirate.

He added that the council will play a pivotal role in supporting the interests of wooden ship companies in Dubai, considering that the first meeting with the board of directors of the "Dubai Wooden Ship Council" was positive and constructive, as the chamber listened to development ideas and the challenges facing this sector.

In turn, the Chairman of the Dubai Council of Wooden Ships, Hamad Ahmed bin Fahd, said that wooden merchant ships played a key role in the economic growth movement of the Emirate of Dubai, as they were and still are the commercial artery of small and medium ports in regional ports, the Indian subcontinent and East Africa, as well as being Part of the most important components of the emirate's tourism and cultural board.

Bin Fahd added that it supports the prosperity of Dubai's foreign trade movement, which exceeded five billion dirhams via commercial wooden ships in 2020.

Council Objectives

The objectives of the Dubai Wooden Ship Council include: enhancing the emirate’s vision towards upgrading its position as a center for global maritime trade, supporting and providing an appropriate environment for the development of the volume of foreign trade, raising the efficiency of services related to the maritime shipping sector, and strengthening trade relations with stakeholders from the government and private sectors inside and outside the country.
