The timing of the charges against Markus Braun came as no surprise.

It is no coincidence that it is now public, immediately before the next detention of the ex-CEO of Wirecard.

After 20 months of investigations, the prosecutors were under a lot of pressure and had to produce results.

The allegations of criminal offenses against Braun and two co-defendants as well as the still unsolved whereabouts of billions of euros will make it almost impossible for the judges to release Braun even temporarily.

In view of the great effort already made, it is rather surprising for outsiders how much investigative work is still involved in the accounting scandal.

Even if the prosecutors are turning the big wheel in the Wirecard case, they have to work on their evidence up to the last second before a possible trial.

The experienced authority simply cannot afford to take a quick shot.

Otherwise, the Munich criminal justice system, which already has another major case to deal with with the Audi process, is facing a real tour de force in the fall.
