148% increase in the number of licenses in the field of coffee trade

The Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai reported that the coffee market and trade in the Emirate of Dubai is part of the food and beverage sector, which includes manufacturing, wholesale and retail sales, import and re-export of food products, and the sector includes hot coffee sold in cafes and restaurants, and ready-to-drink coffee sold in Grocery stores, instant and fresh coffee sold at the retail level.

A report issued by the Commercial Registration and Licensing Sector at the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai stated that the total number of effective licenses in the field of coffee trade in the Emirate today is 615.



Coffee is considered one of the most consumed beverages in the world, and according to the Global Coffee Report issued by the Research and Markets Foundation, the global coffee market size in 2021 was about 108 billion dollars, and the report expected that the coffee market would continue to grow over the next few years, reaching 144.86 billion dollars by The year 2025. The report indicated a positive impact on sales thanks to the increase in retail sales in e-commerce.

The report said that the increased preference for instant coffee, and the increasing demand for specialty coffee, were among the reasons for the high demand for coffee.



The report highlighted the distribution of effective licenses in the field of coffee trading according to the main regions in the Emirate of Dubai. The largest share was Bur Dubai with a total of 368 licenses, then Deira with a total of 243 licenses, and Hatta with a total of 4 licenses. As for the distribution of licenses to the highest sub-regions, it was as follows : Burj Khalifa, Al Ras, Al Barsha 1, First Dubai Investments Park, Al Murar, Hor Al Anz East, Al Quoz 3, Al Karama, Trade Center 1, Port Saeed.



The report indicated that limited liability companies accounted for 64% of the total effective licenses in the field of coffee trade according to the legal form, while individual institutions accounted for 20%, and companies with limited liability - one person 13%.

The rest of the list of legal forms included branches of companies/institutions based in another emirate, civil businesses, and branches of companies/institutions based in a free zone.



The report also indicated an increase in the total number of licenses issued during 2021 by 148% compared to 2020, when 69 licenses were issued, compared to 171 licenses in 2021. The UAE nationality tops the list of investors in the coffee trade, with a rate of 31%, followed by other nationalities such as the British, Italian, Turkish, French, Egyptian, Jordanian, and Kuwaiti.



Several Emirati companies in this field have launched from Dubai to the world through exports and services provided by the Dubai Corporation for the Development of Industry and Exports, one of the institutions of the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai.

The high consumption of coffee in Dubai is due to a number of main factors, including the increase in population, tourism growth and the increase in the number of visitors from all over the world, in addition to the increase in income and the multiplicity of choices in coffee types, which led to stimulating demand, increasing the number of cafes and retail outlets, and the market became more Competitive with the increase in the number of companies operating in the field of coffee.
