The increase in the price of raw materials, energy and transport caused a significant increase in the price of certain foods.

The war in Ukraine is also likely to put additional pressure on food products by summer 2022.

It's a reality: shopping has been costing you more for the past few weeks.

And bad news: it's not going to get better!

Between the soaring prices of raw materials, energy and transport: the prices of food products will increase in the coming weeks.

And the crisis in Ukraine should feed this increase.

A 13% increase for a packet of pasta

The conclusion is there.

A 500 gram packet of pasta sold for 1.94 euros last November now costs 2.25 euros, or 13% more.

The Ukrainian crisis has nothing to do with it, the country grows soft wheat used mainly in biscuits.

The wheat for the pasta comes from France or Canada.

This is durum wheat and its prices soared last summer due to poor Canadian harvests.

These increases were passed on during trade negotiations.

It is therefore all the products that will increase, warns Emily Mayer of IRI France, who analyzes the receipts from large retailers: "We expect it to create a crescendo. Overall, oils, fruits, because 'there were bad harvests last summer, and all poultry products because it's more expensive to feed poultry that eat a lot of cereals. We don't yet have a lot of inflation on dairy products but we can imagine that it will happen in the coming months."

A second price increase this summer?

Nevertheless, consumers should expect a second price increase due to the war in Ukraine.

According to experts, this increase will occur more towards the summer.

The conflict is likely to put additional pressure on the same materials: cereals, oils and energy.

For the moment, an inflation of 5% is planned, but specialists believe that it could go beyond if the conflict lasts over time.
