Cruise ships are often referred to as floating hotels, but the floating properties that are to be built by the Meyer Group from Papenburg in Emsland in the future are of a different caliber.

Houses and facilities for residential construction, tourism and infrastructure on the water are to be built, projects that can cost billions.

A "completely new opportunity to develop high-quality real estate in valuable locations" is mentioned in a statement by Meyer-Werft.

There are no orders yet, but Meyer has set up a joint venture with Admares Marine, the market leader in this new industry.

The new Meyer Floating Solutions is based in Turku, Finland, where Meyer is already working on an existing shipyard to develop a climate-neutral cruise ship concept by 2025.

This path is also followed for the floating real estate solutions, which are said to be energy-neutral with solar panels and heat pumps.

Production using shipyard construction methods brings time and cost advantages compared to conventional construction methods and makes the buildings more sustainable, according to the plan.

Strategically, this expansion means a further diversification of the Meyer Group with its 7,000 employees who, in addition to cruise ships, can also build yachts, research ships, ferries and gas tankers.
