"Shell today announced its intention to withdraw from all Russian hydrocarbon projects, including oil, petroleum products, gas and liquefied natural gas, in a phased manner, in accordance with new government guidance," the statement said.

It is noted that as a first step, it will stop spot purchases of Russian oil.

Earlier, Ampol and Viva Energy, the two largest fuel suppliers in Australia, announced the suspension of purchases of Russian oil.
