• McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Coca-Cola, Starbucks... the big multinationals that continue to operate in Russia

The famous hamburger chain

McDonald's

, an American cultural symbol, announced Tuesday that it is

temporarily closing its 850 stores in Russia and putting its operations "on pause"

because they cannot "ignore the unnecessary suffering caused to Ukraine."

A statement issued by the company explains that this measure will affect the

62,000 employees that the chain has throughout the Russian territory

, whose

salaries will continue to be paid

, in addition to suppliers and other partners in the food business.

McDonald's recalls that it has been operating in the country for more than thirty years and that its restaurants can boast of serving "millions of Russians daily," according to EFE.

It has notified all its franchises of the closure

and has assured that its number one priority since the beginning of the war "has been and is the people."

"As a company,

we join the world in condemning aggression and violence, and praying for peace."

The statement recalls that

the chain's restaurants in Ukraine itself have also been

largely closed, but their employees

continue to receive their full salaries.

McDonald's and Coca Cola, the other company identified with the commercial and cultural power of the United States, have received pressure in

recent days to interrupt their activity in Russia

, a step that other companies, both technological and financial or in the textile sector, have already taken.
