Emirates Airlines signs MoU with Sri Lanka Tourism

Yesterday, Emirates Airlines signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Office.

The company said in a statement that the memorandum of understanding, which was signed at the headquarters of the "Emirates Group" in Dubai, reaffirms the airline's commitment to Sri Lanka, and identifies mutually beneficial initiatives that will help revive the trade and tourism industry in that country.

Under the agreement, Emirates Airlines and Sri Lankan tourism will benefit from joint activities that will help in promoting trade and tourism, including trade fairs, commercial introduction trips, exhibitions and workshops.

Ahmed Khoury, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations at Emirates Airlines for the West Asia and Indian Ocean region, said that "Sri Lanka is an important market within the global (Emirates Airlines) network," pointing out that the agreement confirms the airline's firm commitment to this country.

He added, "We look forward to exploring mutually beneficial initiatives that will help revive the trade and tourism sectors in Sri Lanka, as it provides (Emirates Airlines) opportunities to serve the demand in that market."

For her part, head of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Office, Kimarly Fernando, said, "The strategic partnership with (Emirates Airlines) is vital to guiding the travel and tourism industry in Sri Lanka, as it allows exploration and exploitation of opportunities, and opens many avenues to enhance brand awareness in the global tourism market."

Since Sri Lanka reopened safely to international tourists in February 2021, Emirates Airlines has transported more than 80,000 passengers to Colombo, while the UAE, Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany are the most important source markets for tourists to Sri Lanka.

Emirates Airlines currently operates 28 weekly flights to Colombo, and is the only international airline that offers first class service.
