The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has come up with strategies to support innovation in the field of biotechnology.

Our policy is to provide financial support for research and development to create new fuels and materials with bacteria that have the characteristic of absorbing carbon dioxide.

Biotechnology is regarded as a field that enables economic growth to be compatible with various social issues such as global warming, food crisis, and marine pollution, and expectations are rising.

Under these circumstances, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has launched a strategy to support technological innovation in the field of biotechnology under the title of "Realization of the Bio-Manufacturing Revolution."

Specifically, we will provide financial support for the research and development of microorganisms called "hydrogen bacteria," which have the characteristic of absorbing carbon dioxide.

Hydrogen bacteria are said to be able to produce raw materials for chemicals and proteins from carbon dioxide, and are expected to be a trump card for global warming countermeasures.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry intends to proceed with selection in other research fields, promote joint development between companies that play a central role in development, manufacturers of materials and foods, and energy-related companies, and urgently put them into practical use.

In the field of biotechnology, the United States and China have made large-scale investments, and development competition is intensifying. The Japanese government is also actively supporting companies to catch up.
