In cooperation with the Polish and Ukrainian railways, Deutsche Bahn is building a bridge for aid deliveries.

The state-owned company announced on Monday in Berlin that thousands of tons of food, drinking water and sanitary items were to be brought directly into the country by truck and freight train.

The logistics subsidiary Schenker is setting up collection points for humanitarian aid at numerous stations.

These would be sorted and packed into containers with the support of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW).

Transport to Ukraine by truck is difficult due to congestion on the roads and lack of drivers, but freight trains can still get through.

For major donors in particular, this is an opportunity to bring aid to the Ukraine.

Schenker also coordinates the collection of such large donations, which is free of charge.

People from Ukraine can also use long-distance trains from Poland to Germany for free.

The railway announced this some time ago.

You have to show your Ukrainian passport or ID card at the ticket office.

Together with the Polish Railway, the railway is preparing any additional capacities that may be necessary.

Additional cars and special trains could be used for this, it said.
