A Naver employee was fired after stealing personal information from a female customer and attempting inappropriate personal contact by saying, "Let's follow up on Instagram."

This happened on the sneaker trading platform 'Naver Cream', which advocates 'anonymous and secure transactions'.

According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 7th, an article was recently posted in a fashion community in which an employee of Naver Cream contacted a female customer's phone number and suggested 'Let's follow up on Instagram'.

When the writer's girlfriend left the sneakers to be sold at the offline branch of Naver Cream, the receptionist saw customer information such as the contact information on the sneakers box and sent a private text message.

On this post, nearly 200 comments criticizing Naver Cream, such as "unauthorized use of personal information", "personal information leakage from large corporation Naver", and "must be reported unconditionally" were posted.

Although Naver Cream actively asserts that it helps sellers and buyers to transact anonymously and safely without sharing personal information with each other, it has been pointed out that it has failed to manage the abuse of personal information by employees.

After receiving a complaint from the victim on the 24th of last month, Naver convened a personnel committee and disciplinary fired the employee.

A Naver official said, "The HR committee found that it was a prohibited item in the labor contract and fired them."

However, it is known that 10 days have passed since Naver recognized that compensation has not yet been made to the victim.

The author of the post also posted a follow-up post stating that an employee of Naver Cream had been fired and that he received nothing from Naver.

Some community members have questioned whether Naver Cream is doing so-called 'pruning' to close the case by dismissing the employee without posting a member notice related to the personal information leak or compensating the victim.

Experts pointed out that Naver should actively prepare compensation for damaged customers rather than driving individual deviations from employees like other companies.

Lee Eun-woo, a lawyer at Jiyang Law Firm, said, "It is not just a violation of personal information, but it can also be viewed as stalking, so you will have to pay a lot of compensation." problem," he said.
