Another brake.

From Monday, the Stellantis (PSA) factory in Rennes La Janais will be shut down for at least a week.

The reason ?

The shortage of semiconductors that the automotive industry has suffered since the start of the health crisis.

The announcement was made to employees on Friday during an extraordinary social and economic committee (CSE).

“We have a central crisis unit that manages our supplies and parts and (these parts) are currently missing,” said management.

The site will be “completely stopped” and “the employees will be in partial activity”.

The management also offered those concerned to be on RTT on Thursday and Friday.

Management confirms that temporary workers will also be affected: “There will be an advance of 56 euros per day of work not carried out to limit the impact on their income”.

Faced with the semiconductor crisis, the CEO of Stellantis Carlos Tavares had said he hoped "visibility after the summer of 2022", recalls the management.

"Moral in half"

"This is bad news" according to the CFDT.

“The war in Ukraine is not a direct cause of this lack of parts, but the management does not hide its fears of possible impacts in the future linked to this conflict,” the union said in a press release.

"With 13 days not worked out of 15 in a worrying geopolitical context, employee morale is at half mast and we are crossing our fingers for a better future", underlined Laurent Valy, CFDT secretary of the CSE of PSA La Janais.

La Janais, located south of Rennes, employs 2,000 people and temporary workers.

The factory, which has two teams, usually produces 400 vehicles a day, Citroën C5 Aircross and Peugeot 5008. It should produce the future C5 called CR3.
