The German nuclear industry sees itself in a position to continue operating the last three nuclear power plants in such a way that they will already contribute to energy security in the coming winter.

The systems were actually supposed to go offline on December 31st.

So far it has been said that there are not enough fuel elements available for the winter of 2022/23.

On Friday, the Association of Nuclear Technology Germany announced that the lifetime extension could "make an important contribution to Germany's energy security, both in the coming winter and afterwards".

The association includes the operators and scientific institutions.

The industry is ready "to support the continued operation of nuclear power plants in Germany and to make the necessary resources available".

The systems are “in excellent condition in terms of safety.

There are no security-related reasons against further operation.”

The prerequisite is that the Bundestag changes the laws “promptly” and that the regulatory authorities and experts are involved “quickly”.

And that the political decisions are "resilient" with a view to the necessary investments.
