More and more food retailers in Germany are banning Russian products from their shelves.

In addition to discounters Aldi, Rewe, Edeka and Penny have also announced that they will no longer sell food from Russia for the time being.

“We support all sanctions that have been and are being initiated by the EU and the federal government.

That's why we decided to delist all products that are produced in Russia from our range," says the Edeka supermarket.

He is currently also checking whether products from Belarus are available in the range.

Rewe states that existing stocks are still being sold or donated to aid organizations such as the Tafel.

While retailer Rewe is said to have around 40 products from Russia, Aldi Süd only includes a vodka bottle.

"As a food retailer, we are setting an example in the current situation," says the discounter.

Critics see this as nothing more than a sign: After all, the sanctions have stopped the flow of goods anyway.

This is also the wrong signal to the Russian-born citizens in Germany.

The Armbruster bakery was also able to determine that not every campaign was approved.

The baker with a total of 77 branches in southern Germany renamed its Russian Zupfkuchen as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.

This led to a shitstorm on the internet.

Shortly thereafter, the baker withdrew the name change and stated that it was never the intention "to meet Russians in a racist manner or to accuse them of sympathizing with the war in Ukraine".
