The Ministry of Economy revealed that it had seized 3,238 violations in the markets, through 25,162 control rounds, which it carried out in cooperation with local departments during the second half of 2021.

In a press interview held yesterday, she confirmed the availability of sufficient stocks for periods of wheat and grains, a large proportion of which is imported through the Russian and Ukrainian markets, and the absence of any concerns related to the shortage of imported goods from these two markets, with the availability of many alternatives in global markets.

Monitoring Mechanism

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, Abdullah Al Saleh, said that the ministry addresses any unjustified increases in commodity prices, in cooperation with local departments, within the framework of the standards stipulated by the Consumer Protection Law, which provides an umbrella to protect consumers' rights comprehensively, not just prices.

He added that the ministry focuses, through control mechanisms, on following up on any changes in the basic commodities described in the strategy, which constitute the basic components of food for families, such as wheat, grains, oils, rice and poultry.

He explained that the ministry adopts various mechanisms to control markets, the most prominent of which is follow-up and control in coordination with local departments, in addition to dealing quickly with consumer complaints received through various channels.

Sufficient stock

Al Saleh confirmed the availability of sufficient stocks, for periods, of wheat and grains such as corn, a large proportion of which is imported through the Russian and Ukrainian markets, pointing out that there are no concerns regarding the shortage of imported products from the Russian and Ukrainian markets, with the availability of many alternatives in global markets.

He pointed out that among the most prominent alternatives available globally are the Canadian, Australian, Argentine and United States markets, in addition to Asian countries such as India or in the region, and therefore, the availability of many alternatives provides sources of supply with suitable qualities and prices.

In turn, the Assistant Undersecretary for the Monitoring and Follow-up Sector at the Ministry of Economy, Abdullah Al-Fan Al-Shamsi, said that the ministry monitored, in coordination with local departments, 3,238 violations related to consumer protection, during the second half of last year, pointing out that these violations were seized through 25,162 control rounds. .

He revealed that the ministry intends to implement oversight campaigns and follow-up to the markets intensively and more extensively before and during the Ramadan season, in cooperation with local departments, to support price stability and prevent any attempts to exploit the large increase in consumer demand at outlets during that period, to impose violating price increases.

He stressed that the ministry is coordinating with the main companies supplying the markets, to pump sufficient quantities of goods to meet the needs of families during that period, which allows offering discount offers, commensurate with the high consumer demand before and during the month of Ramadan.
