After gas and electricity last year, it is the turn of food and hygiene and maintenance products to suffer the consequences of inflation.

And the trend could increase in 2022. In order to limit the impact on your wallet, it may therefore be wise to pay attention to the choice of your supermarket.

Because prices can vary considerably from one brand to another.

Like every year, UFC-Que Choisir has published its list of the cheapest supermarkets.

To do this, investigators from the Federal Consumers Union recorded the prices in several stores of the eight “main retail chains”.

And like last year, it is E.Leclerc which displays the lowest prices.

Good Last Casino

For a basket made up of 98 current products from national brands and distributors, you will have to pay an average of 348 euros at Leclerc.

For the same basket, consumers will have to pay 356 euros at Intermarché, 365 euros at Système U, 372 euros at Carrefour and 381 euros at Auchan.

The last place in this ranking goes to Casino, with a basket of 408 euros, or 60 euros more than at Leclerc.

But beware, there may also be considerable price differences between stores of the same brand.

“Our volunteers have noticed a maximum difference of 19 euros from one Cora to another for the same shopping list.

A difference that explodes at Casino (107 euros) and Carrefour (101 euros) “said UFC-Que Choisir.

Price differences between regions

Similarly, the location of supermarkets can affect the rating.

The strong presence of Leclerc stores in Brittany, Pays-de-la-Loire and Nouvelle-Aquitaine means that the inhabitants of these regions will pay less for their shopping than those living in Île-de-France or in the South-East.
