Knowing at a glance the "carbon score" of a vehicle in an advertisement will become mandatory.

From this Tuesday, car manufacturers have the obligation to mention the CO2 emission indicator in each advertisement broadcast on television or in the cinema, reports Franceinfo.

This “carbon score”, which makes it possible to gauge a car on the model of the energy label classifying household appliances, ie from A to G, from green to red, was already present in car dealerships and in car magazines.

A message highlighting soft mobility will accompany the environmental labelling.

What about hybrid and electric vehicles?

On the side of environmental activists, we are in favor of this labeling, while deeming it incomplete.

Because the CO2 indicator only retains the particles emitted by the vehicle but not those resulting from its manufacture.

This excludes hybrid and electric vehicles from the system.

“This will obviously show the harmfulness of diesel and gasoline, which is a good thing, tells our colleagues Anne Lassman-Trappier of France Nature Environnement.

On the other hand, it distorts the reality concerning all that is electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, 60% of the carbon footprint of an electric vehicle comes from its manufacturing phase.

By analyzing vehicle scores in 2020, Ademe has established that an overwhelming majority (90%) have a carbon score between A and B.
