A container ship that operates automatically using AI = artificial intelligence made a round trip between Tokyo Bay and Ise Bay, and returned to the port on the 1st.

This is the first time that automatic operation has been successful on a route that is congested with heavy traffic, and it is expected that it will gain momentum for practical use.

This ship is a 95-meter-long container ship developed by a group of about 30 companies, including major shipping companies and ship equipment manufacturers.

The ship is equipped with high-sensitivity cameras and radar to grasp the position of surrounding ships, and AI can select a route to avoid collision based on wave and weather data and operate automatically. ..

The ship departed from Tokyo Harbor on February 26, sailed through Tokyo Bay, stopped at Tsumatsusaka Port in Ise Bay in Mie Prefecture, and returned to the port around 6:30 am on March 1.

Since the traffic of ships is concentrated and crowded in Tokyo Bay and Ise Bay, speed limits are required for the routes in the bay, but according to the development group, this is the first time that automatic operation has been successful on these routes. about it.

A sailor is also on board for safety management, and a mechanism to remotely control the ship from a land facility in Chiba City is in place, but this time, automatic operation using AI was realized in a time zone exceeding 97%. about it.

Satoru Kuwahara, the program director of the development group, said, "If it is put into practical use, it will reduce the burden on seafarers and is expected to help solve the labor shortage."
