In February, the number of new cars sold in Japan was more than 350,000, about 17% lower than the same month last year.

Due to a series of production cuts due to the rapid spread of the new corona infection, it was the lowest in February in the last 20 years.

According to announcements from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and others, the number of new cars sold in Japan in February was 354,668, a decrease of 17.9% from the same month last year.

Of these, "registered vehicles" such as ordinary passenger cars, trucks, and buses decreased by 18.5% to 213,699 units, and light vehicles decreased by 17% to 149,69 units, both of which are the highest in February in the last 20 years. It became low.

This is because the global semiconductor shortage continues, and due to the rapid spread of infection after the beginning of the year, the factory of the business partner has stopped operating, and it has become impossible to procure enough parts, resulting in a series of production cuts at each company.

This is the eighth consecutive month that the number has fallen below the same month of the previous year, and the impact on sales is increasing.

An industry group said, "We cannot read how long production cuts will continue due to the shortage of semiconductors and the impact of the new corona, and we are not in a situation where we can make a future outlook."
